There are many aspects that make up a great game, but almost all of them have a great story. Why should an MMO be any different? For Ether Saga Online, we took inspiration from the Chinese classic: Journey to the West.

Journey to the West is regarded as one of the Four Great Classical Novels in Chinese literature. It was originally published in the 1590s, and although there is no official evidence to an author, it is credited to scholar Wu Cheng'en. ESO Gold players can meet Wu Cheng'en as he wanders around the ESO Gold world and might even accept a quest from him.

A player's story in Ether Saga begins after a series of calamities has struck the gods. At the Peach Blossom Banquet, a meeting of all the leaders of heaven, the Crimson General of the Heavenly Navy drunkenly harasses the Moon Goddess. The ESO Gold of Decency banishes the immortal General to the mortal realm for his behavior.

Nuwa, Queen of Heaven, calling for a toast, attempts to soothe the mood. She requests that the Divine Peach - Wine Chalice, her most treasured possession, be brought forth for the toast. But the servant carrying the vessel is too hasty. He trips and drops the vessel, shattering it into thousands of pieces which fall to the human realm below. Meanwhile, amongst the commotion, the Treasure of Heaven, a sacred ark that prevents evil from entering heaven, disappears.

It is quickly decided that a monk will lead the journey to seek the knowledge, wisdom and blessings need to purify the Heavens again. In Journey to the West, the text follows monk Xuangzang on his pilgrimage to obtain Buddhist religious holy texts called sutras.

To aid the monk in his journey, the three races of the world - Renzu, Yaoh and Shenzu - are given special tasks: the Renzu must gather the shards of the broken chalice, the Yaoh have the duty of recovering the sacred ark and the Shenzu must locate the banished General, who was reincarnated as half pig due to an error in the Reincarnation Wheel.

The General is similar to the story of Zhu Bajie (or Zhu Wuneng). ESO draws upon the story of his expulsion from heaven for flirting with the moon goddess, as well as his rebirth as half-pig. Zhu Bajie, however, eventually joins Xuangzang's pilgramiage. Will the General also seek a path of redemption?

Players will find many references to Journey to the West throughout their journey. The Ether Saga Online Gold story, however, is not a retelling, but is more meant as a prequel.

Although, the pre-story for each race is the same, since each race undertakes a different journey, the storyline they will uncover will not be the same. Your story will begin as your character being the chosen one of your race, who has been called forth to complete the heaven mandated task.
